Considering it a national task to provide higher education to women, Maharishi Dhondo Keshav Karve established S. N. D. T. Mahila Vidyapeeth. The ‘General Education Institute’s Mahila Mahavidyalaya affiliated to this university is running at Joshi Bagh Kalyan. B.A Marathi, History and Economics Special as well as B.Com. Numerous students are studying at the postgraduate level along with this degree.

S.N.D.T. is the only women's college in the suburb of Kalyan Junction in Thane district, which is affiliated to Mahila University. Late G.N. Akshikar established the General Education Institute to bring Bahujans into the stream of education. Mahila College was started in Dombivli since 1983. From June 2024, Mahila College in Dombivli has been shifted to New High School Joshi Bagh Kalyan West.

Along with education, various activities are implemented in the college for the overall personality development of the students. For example, education, self-reliance, self-confidence and empowerment etc. In our college, Maharashtra Government scholarship for the education of backward class students as well as other government scholarship facilities are also provided. In order for the students from economically weaker sections to get education, they are also provided financial assistance from some NGOs and charitable persons of the society and the college staff.

At present, the college is progressing successfully and students have excelled in the fields of literature, art, sports, administration and politics etc. The college has NSS Department, Sports Department, Marathi Literature Club, History mandal, Economics Forum, Commerce Department, Admission committee. and various competitions and activities are organized under them to provide scope for the all-round personality development of the students and our college prioritized security and safety, and they are well managed. Our college grows day by day.

The college has a proper education centre and proper education facilities are provided to the students. We have full qualified staff who are helpful in nature. A total of 11 professors, 1 librarian, 3 non-teaching staff and 4 servants are working in the college. The students who have studied from the college have made their mark in many fields and have made the name of the college bright. They have conquered various fields such as academic, cultural, administrative, sports and political. The college has a rich tradition of bright success and the students have shown their talent in many fields.

Various activities are being taken up under the National Service Scheme and National Service Scheme camps are organized every year. Essay competitions, debate competitions, elocution competitions, poetry writing competitions, guidance on competitive exams, placement cells, etc. organized by various boards are organized in the college. Numerous students from suburban and rural areas ranging from Thane, Karjat, Kasara, exploited and neglected economically weak students from the bottom have taken advantage of education.

Considering that the progress of any country depends on the progress of women, our college is constantly striving to bring women into the stream of equality and to prioritize the advancement of women. Along with the curriculum, other activities are also implemented through expert guidance, seminars and workshops.
